Alice Mbewe, aka Anashe, Inspires Teenagers with Her Poetry and Writing
People often say working with teenagers of Generation Z is problematic as they are labelled as mischievous. However, it seemed to be an easy task for Alice to work with teens by sharing her experiences and being the mentor she could have ever had during her teenage years.
Alice Mbewe, widely known as Anashe, has emerged as a talented and ambitious young poet and writer, positively influencing teenagers and charming readers with her intricate wordplay and ability to express raw emotions.
When asked about how she manages to work with teenagers she said, “I find it easy to work with them because she knows the terrible issues young teens go through.”

Bulawayo Trailblazer
Hailing from Bulawayo, this young woman has established herself as a force to be reckoned with in the creative industry. With her primary education at Ingubo Primary School and high school at Sikhulile High School, Anashe’s journey to success began at an early age.
Growing up, Anashe discovered her passion for writing as a way to express her emotions to others. It became her trusted medium of communication. However, it was during her early teens, when she was appointed as the junior Chairperson of Zimpahac, an organisation spreading awareness and hope, that she fell in love with poetry. This newfound love, coupled with her desire to impact society positively, set her on the path to becoming a poet.
Unlike many writers, Anashe draws her inspiration from observing others and her surroundings. Whenever she steps out of her home, she sees it as an opportunity to find inspiration for her work. Her ability to keenly observe the world around her allows her to create impactful and relatable pieces.
When asked about her favourite poets and writers, Anashe mentions Bright K, Thaluso da poet, Mazweli, and Kristy Nhau as her sources of inspiration. Their diverse styles and unique voices have influenced her own writing style, contributing to her growth as a writer.
The Rising Star
Out of all the works she has created, Anashe’s favourite piece to date is a poem titled “The Rising Star.” Not only was it an award-nominated piece, but it also resonates deeply with her personal experiences. The poem encapsulates the struggles and triumphs of individuals from underrepresented communities, specifically representing those from Kasi backgrounds.
For aspiring poets and writers, Anashe’s advice is simple yet powerful. She urges them to never abandon their passion, no matter the challenges they encounter along the way. With resilience and determination, success will come.
Balancing her work as a podcaster, chief editor, and poet/writer is no easy task, but Anashe approaches it with dedication and compromise. Being an artist is not a choice for her; it is her destiny. She puts in the effort to ensure that every aspect of her work is executed perfectly, allowing her creativity to shine.
However, one of the most challenging aspects of Anashe’s work is the misconception that her poems reflect her personal experiences. Often, people believe that she is going through the emotions she recites in her poems. Anashe considers it a testament to her ability to connect with her audience, but it can also be overwhelming to constantly clarify that her poems are works of art.
Recognition
On the other hand, the most rewarding aspect of her work has been the recognition she has received. Anashe’s talent has been acknowledged by the Praca Awards and The Red Carpet Poetry Awards, both of which have propelled her career forward. Breaking the barriers that initially hindered her success, she has become a source of inspiration for aspiring poets and writers from similar backgrounds.
Throughout her career, Anashe has learned valuable lessons, with patience being the most significant. Working with people has taught her to be attentive to every situation, ensuring that she creates meaningful art. These lessons have not only honed her creative skills but also helped her navigate the challenges and triumphs of her professional journey.
Lastly, Anashe’s dedication to her craft and her ability to touch the hearts of her readers make her a rising star in the world of poetry and writing. With her unique perspective and unwavering passion, she continues to break down barriers and inspire others with her powerful words.
