Dejavu Apparel: Bulawayo Brand With Regional Ambitions
Bulawayo street culture has grown and evolved. From the time of Ama Kip Kip days to us having our own home grown brands like Ndebele Crush, Stars 29 and All Imperial.
And for us to understand where we are and where we started, we have to look at how far we have come and acknowledge those who got us here, and one such person is Déjàvu Apparel founder, Allen Moyo.
The young and charismatic man has been at the forefront of Skies street wear since 2017 and dreams of tapping the regional market. One would wonder how he manages to juggle Déjàvu in such a porous and competitive environment with quite a number of brands striving for recognition, but it’s actually his determination and self-belief which has taken him this far.
Business Setbacks
It’s very satisfying to realise that regardless of numerous external setbacks, there are people who still believe in their talent they possess and willing to share their creativity with the rest of the world.
“The journey is hectic sometimes, there are so many hurdles and many hard lessons and great moments as well. A lot of growth and maturity for the brand but we keep pushing despite the setbacks,” says Allen.
He says since the launch of the brand, there has been mixed reactions in the streets especially from public criticisms, getting accused of being funded by wrong people and dealing with unprofessional suppliers.
“Despite all this, the love and support has been overwhelming and it has pushed me to offer better quality because there are people who genuinely love the brand,” he says.

Creating an Identity
“I am proud to have put my print in the fashion industry ever since I launched it in 2017 creating an identity for young people in Bulawayo, my brand is a symbol of identity and Dejavu is for every dreamer out there, it’s for everyone”.
Moreover, Allen is one of those enthusiasts, in a few years he says he sees his clothing brand as a regional powerhouse, and that when one thinks of purchasing streetwear, they think of Dejavu Apparel.
“Dejavu Apparel is for everyone out there, for every dreamer out there, we want everyone to access our clothing brand in the region and feel good whilst wearing it,” he says.
Regional Impact
Recently the clothing brand has been getting clients in South Africa and Allen says it’s their dream to have a regional impact and see themselves going global one day.
The clothing brand offers, t-shirts, bucket hats, shorts, turtle neck tops as well as long sleeve shirts and many other pieces.
Lastly, his pieces are all connected to a theme, depending with what is trending in the fashion space, and this can be influenced by music or art. By infusing their designs with trends, Dejavu Apparel aims to make a lasting impact in the fashion industry.
