Trade Fair
Zimbabwe International Trade Fair is essential for local enterprises to compete at the global stage, ZITF chairman, Busisa Moyo has said this on 11 April while in a media briefing on the state of preparedness for this year’s 63 edition.
Moyo stated that local exhibitors must make the most use of this opportunity since increasing the competitiveness of locally made goods through better capacity and capacity utilisation across all of our real estate sectors is the only way to expand Zimbabwe’s economy.
“The ZITF stands at the epicentre of fortifying local and regional enterprises’ ecosystems to be able to compete on the global stage,” said Moyo.
Networking
This year’s 63 edition international and multi-sectoral trade fair, according to Moyo, will serve as a forum for industry participants to network and learn about new ways to innovate and expand faster.
“This year’s theme “Transformative Innovation, Global Competitiveness,” locates ZITF as the epicentre for fortifying local and regional enterprise ecosystems to be able to compete on the global stage,” said.
Mr. Moyo elaborated on the theme, stating that it resonates well with both the National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 1. The ZITF 2023 theme is appropriate because it emphasises the key components of our National Vision 2030 and its current medium-term plan NDS1 by highlighting three fundamentals.
“The first fundamental is that the only way to grow the Zimbabwean economy is to improve the competitiveness of locally produced products through improved capacity and capacity utilisation in the manufacturing sector. Secondly, to improve competitiveness, our businesses need to be innovative in terms of both their industrial processes and their business models. The last one is that industrialization is not just a Zimbabwean problem but also one that affects the whole African continent and the SADC region,” said Moyo.
Moyo stated that ZITF and National Economic Consultative Forum (NECF) will conduct International Business Conference on 26 April, which is now a regular feature, in keeping with the expectations of the industry for a platform that gives beneficial engagements, insightful observations, and priceless networking possibilities. The main ZITF concept will guide the business conference.
“It will focus on evaluating Zimbabwe’s innovation standing in terms of regional and global competitiveness, sharing insights on the innovation opportunities available as well as mapping the way forward for a globally competitive Zimbabwe,” stated Moyo.
Guest Speaker
The conference, which will feature Vice-President Dr. Constantino Chiwenga as its guest speaker, is anticipated to draw around 600 people. The African Development Bank (AfDB), Zimbabwe Development Agency (ZIDA), ZimTrade, Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI), Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC), and Scientific and Industrial Research and Development Centre (SIRDC) are among the organizations whose representatives will make presentations.
The second edition of the Connect Africa Symposium is expected to draw over 300 delegates from across the region and will run under the theme “Unlocking Africa’s Potential: Innovation, Competitiveness and Sustainable Development.”
Moyo revealed that the ZITF Diplomat’s Forum organised in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade will run under the theme “Crafting a Global Landscape of Resilience and Innovation: Strategies for International Competitiveness.”
In addition to the aforementioned events, Moyo revealed that the ZITF 2023 will place a special emphasis on engaging youth in the conversation about innovation and global competitiveness through initiatives like the ZITF Innovators’ Forum, which will be held with the theme “Industry 4.0: Unlocking the Potential of Transformative Innovation for Global Competitiveness.”
During the pitch and hackaton competitions, innovations from four topical tracks, including agriculture, energy, ICTs, and the informal sector, will be highlighted.
The official opening ceremony will take place on Friday, April 28 where the President of Senegal, HE Macky Sall is expected to officiate accompanied by the President of Zimbabwe, HE Dr Emmerson. D. Mnangagwa. Entry fees will be $10 for adults and $5 for children.
