The Dragon Eats: A Zimbabwean Entrepreneur’s Dream of Delivering Variety in Food
A dream come true is how a 28-year-old entrepreneur, Tatenda Kuyambwa sees The Dragon Eats Pub and Grill company. Growing up, Kuyambwa has always been passionate about cooking. He started as a cleaner at a sushi bar in Harare and worked his way up to become a skilled sushi chef. After gaining experience in the food industry, Kuyambwa started his own business, Sushi Lovers Zimbabwe, before opening the Dragon Eats pub and grill in December 2020.
The Dragon Eats pub and grill has grown since its inception, with the support of the community. Kuyambwa started with only two chefs and two waiters, but now has four chefs and four waiters, with two extra chefs joining during busy periods. Despite economic challenges in Zimbabwe, his business continues to push forward.

People’s Choice Restaurant
“We are the people’s choice restaurant, we are the universal champ, we have variety which keeps us strong,” Kuyambwa said. “We attract all different kinds of people.”
The restaurant offers a wide range of menu options, including English, seafood, Japanese, Indian, traditional, and pizza. The ingredients are sourced from different farms for vegetables and imported from South Africa for seafood.
You Need Passion!
“I must say this kind of business needs lots of attention in terms of buying stock, it needs enough workers and no shortcuts allowed, right location, and also it needs passion when it comes to cooking experience,” Kuyambwa said.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kuyambwa’s business continued to thrive through takeaway and delivery services offered under his previous business name, Sushi Lovers Zimbabwe.
“We are not just any other restaurant. We’re different from our competitors because of our variety of food plus we are always the restaurant of choice,” Kuyambwa said.
