MSMEs Bulawayo Graduation Ceremony Highlights Commitment to Small Business Growth in Zimbabwe
In a historic inaugural MSMEs Bulawayo graduation ceremony Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) advisory council chairperson Moses Magura presented a range of protocols and proposed initiatives for the development and growth of the small business sector.

Addressing the attendees, Magura expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to propose various measures aimed at enhancing the progression of the MSMEs sector. He highlighted the significance of MSMEs and their contribution to the country’s development.

Magura stated, “Your message underscores the importance of MSMEs with regards to their contribution to the developing country… You can, you know, do in your mind your way to the development and growth of your business in the nation.”
Nation’s Development
Magura assured participants that his team would work tirelessly to support the sector in taking a leading role in the country’s future aspirations.
Deputy Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Jenifer Mhlanga, speaking during the event, emphasized the potential for MSMEs to create business opportunities and contribute to various sectors.
“I’d like to urge SMEs to just exploit this opportunity in order to meaningfully contribute to the economic development of the country,” said Mhlanga.

Partnerships with Stakeholders
Mhlanga emphasized the ministry’s commitment to supporting the growth of the sector through capacity-building programs and partnerships with stakeholders. The ministry aims to facilitate access to markets, finance, and provision of appropriate spaces for the development and growth of MSMEs.
“We are working closely with various stakeholders for the development and growth of (the) MSMEs sector,” she added.
In addition to providing support for MSMEs, the ministry has collaborated with financial institutions to establish the Women’s Microfinance Development Fund and community development programs. These initiatives aim to provide access to finance and technical training for SMEs.

Growth-Oriented SMEs
The accomplishments of the various support institutions in the MSMEs sector, were also commended during the ceremony. The institutions have tirelessly focused on the growth of growth-oriented SMEs, leading to notable progress within the sector.
Overall, the event highlighted the government’s commitment to encouraging the growth of MSMEs in line with the national vision of achieving an upper middle-income society by 2030.

Great Enthusiasm
The graduation ceremony concluded with great enthusiasm and appreciation for the coordinated efforts of entities spearheaded by President Emmerson Mnangagwa signifying Zimbabwe’s readiness to support the development of its small business sector.
Lastly, as the country moves towards its economic goals, all eyes will be on the continued efforts of the government and other stakeholders in providing support and opportunities for the MSMEs sector.
