The City of Bulawayo, known for its vibrant arts and cultural scene, is gearing up to celebrate the annual Bulawayo Day and Bulawayo Festival (BAF) week from June 1st to June 5th. The festival, which has been celebrated since 2020, aims to highlight the city’s rich cultural heritage, diverse artistic potential, and position Bulawayo as a cultural hub and tourist destination.
“Bulawayo is a city where cultural rights in their diverse manifestations occupy a place of pride. Showcasing Talents
She added, “The festival provides a platform to showcase and promote artistic talent, grow the industry, and instil self-pride and a sense of belonging among the people of Zimbabwe.”
The festival, which is budgeted for in the City of Bulawayo’s 2024 budget, offers numerous benefits to the city and its residents. It serves as a marketing tool, showcasing the city’s cultural heritage and diversity and positioning it as a tourist destination. By tapping into the potential of the festival, particularly in the culture, arts, and heritage sector, Bulawayo can derive economic benefits and strengthen the creative and tourism sectors.
Economic Impact
In addition to its economic impact, the festival plays a crucial role in promoting cultural identity, preserving the city’s rich cultural heritage, and fostering social cohesion through the celebration of diversity. It also supports the development of the creative industries, provides livelihood opportunities, and contributes to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals.
“The Bulawayo Arts Festival is an important activity that draws national and international attention, supporting both national and international agendas that promote arts and culture,” emphasised Mpofu.
She further said, “We encourage various stakeholders, arts and culture practitioners, and the corporate world to partner with us in making this festival a resounding success.”
