Bulawayo Notorious Armed Robbers Nabbed.
Terrorising the City
Nine suspected robbers who allegedly terrorised the city of Bulawayo have been arrested in connection with a string of robberies in the city.
The gang includes Limukani Khuphe (38), Brendon Moyo (25), Benefit Vhudzi (37), Witness Macebo (27), Isheunesu Nhliziyo, aka Scanda (36), Nyapo Ndlovu (26), Limukani Dube (32), and Lungisani Mpofu (24).
Admitted to Crimes
Bulawayo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube, stated at a press conference conducted on Wednesday at Central Police Station where the robbers were paraded that the accused admitted to the allegations and are accountable for two armed robbery incidents.
“The first case occurred on April 28th, 2023, when the group knocked on a front sitting room door of a house in New Luveve, claiming to be police officers looking for a guy named Brighton. However, they forced open the kitchen back door armed with knives, machetes, and knobkerries, before hitting the complainants with a machete and demanding money and valuables,” said Inspector Ncube.
Rangemore Breakin
Inspector further explained that the second robbery occurred on May 6th, 2023, when the accused persons broke into a house at Rangemore suburb, armed with two unidentified pistols, a machete, a sjambok, and knives, before assaulting and threatening the complainants who were sleeping in different rooms. The accused stole property worth US$ 870-00, ZAR 5,000, and ZWL $47 000. Nothing was recovered.
Leading to Their Arrest
On May 14th, 2023, the police received information about the whereabouts of the accused persons, leading to their arrest. The police also recovered a Taurus revolver, loaded with live rounds and empty cartridges, from Limukani Khuphe and a pellet gun from Brendon Moyo.
Inspector Ncube also revealed that among the gang was a businessman who took advantage of the licensed firearm to conduct the robberies with his accomplices.
Nine-Member Gang
“Limukani Khuphe (38) is the owner of this revolver. He is a business man in Sun Yat-Sen where he comes from. He stays in Plumtree and he also resides in Rangemore in Bulawayo. This nine-member gang has been terrorising Bulawayo, as they are involved in armed robbery cases,” Inspector Ncube revealed.
The accused persons are now in custody and awaiting trial.
Public Participation
In light of this notorious robbers, Inspector Ncube applauded the public for their participation the fight against crimes and urged them to use target hardening techniques in their premises by increasing door and window burglar bars security.
Inspector Ncube also urged residents to screen their tenants as it turned out some of the accused were lodging together in one house.
He said, “We are calling on house owners to vet their tenants and also calling on members of the public to monitor the lives and activities of their community members and report so that we can carry surveillance and monitor general members to prevent such crimes from occurring.”
