Bulawayo residents express dismay over water supply interruption.
Residents of Bulawayo have expressed dismay over the current water supply interruption, which has left many without water for over two weeks.
Those living in flats, such as Nguboyenja, Mzilikazi have been the hardest hit, with the overcrowded living conditions creating a health hazard.
A Nguboyenja resident, Nothando Moyo lamented saying, “Living conditions here without water is something else especially if you have children. Going to the toilet is a problem because the toilets are always messed up by many people.”

Overrated
Another resident took it to social media and said, “I feel like the engineering department at city council is just overrated. We can’t have people from NUST coming straight to the engineering department hence why the city is failing to supply us with adequate water and experiencing interruption of water. May we have engineers that have exposure, engineers with international experience so that they bring innovative ideas in curbing all supply challenges and water resource management.”
North End had water for less than two days while other areas like Burnside, Hillcrest, and Famona have water 24/7. This has led residents to question whether top brass live in those areas, making them privileged compared to others.
“Why do they never get cuts and other areas are punished? It’s not fair,” said another resident.

Weeks without Water
Residents in Nketa have also been without water for two weeks and are pleading with the council to provide water as soon as possible.
A frustrated resident exclaimed, “We don’t care whatever means you will do but please we need water today BCC.”
According to Town Clerk, Christopher Dube the current interruption is due to delays in the completion of leak repairs on the Flowserve line, which is affecting raw water deliveries to the Criterion Water Treatment Plant. The Tuli Reservoir has also been affected by a power surge that took place at Ncema on Thursday, 10th August 2023, resulting in two out of five treated water pumps from the Ncema to Tuli line being affected.
Health Hazards
In light of the incident, Dube said that the City of Bulawayo is working on restoring full water delivery as soon as possible, but some residents are concerned about the health hazards of the current situation.
The lack of access to clean water has become a major concern for residents, as it not only affects their health but also impacts their day-to-day lives. The City of Bulawayo has apologized for the inconvenience caused and urged residents to bear with them as they work to restore the water supply.
