BVTA in partnership with DCA donated fire extinguishers to Mtize inferno victims
Bulawayo Vendors and Traders Association (BVTA) has partnered with the Danish Church Aid (DCA) to improve the safety of the Mutize Flea-market by providing fire extinguishers and disaster reduction training to the market’s traders.
This comes after a devastating fire that destroyed Goods worth millions of dollars belonging to over 200 informal traders that destroyed the market last year.
According to BVTA, the partnership with DCA is aimed at improving the safety of the market and its traders. BVTA and DCA have supported the traders throughout the market rebuilding process and are ensuring that it is safer and more resilient to future disasters.
Improving Safety
“In a joint effort to improve the safety of the Mutize Flea-market, BVTA has partnered with the Danish Church Aid (DCA) to provide fire extinguishers and disaster reduction training to the market’s traders,” read BVTA report
According to BVTA, this is not just about physical safety, but also about the economic resilience of the market and its traders.
Last year, BVTA and DCA also trained the victims of Mutize Flea-market on disaster reduction and fire safety. BVTA and DCA are also working to ensure that the market meets all the necessary safety standards.
The Mutize Flea-market is an important part of the local economy, and the safety of the traders and customers is of utmost importance. The partnership between BVTA and DCA is a step in the right direction towards ensuring that the market is a safe and secure place for everyone.
Emergency Relief
BVTA in partnership with Bulawayo Chamber of SMEs with the support of Dan Church Aid ZW last year held a seven days Disaster Risk Reduction training with the Mutize Vendors who lost their wares in an inferno.
They also held the Emergency Relief and Support to Mutize Market Fire Disaster End of Project Meeting. The event highlighted the achievements of the project, including the support provided to affected vendors and the local community.
In addition BVTA, with support from DCA, also facilitated business clinics to assist Mutize traders who lost their wares in a fire.
