Cable Thief Arrested at Pumula South
A 29-year-old man from Pumula South in Bulawayo, has been arrested by the police in a suspected case of cable theft. According to Bulawayo Police
Furthermore, spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube, the incident took place on May 25, 2023, around 8:00 pm when one of the residents from the same neighborhood caught Isaya Vumbunu red-handed cutting ZESA overhead copper cables at a pole near a certain house.
Also, Vumbunu attempted to flee from the scene as soon as he spotted the resident. However, he was later apprehended by the police after the resident informed them of the incident.Inspector Ncube said, “Police searched the place and approximately 12 metres of ZESA overhead copper cables were recovered”.
Moreover, the suspect was immediately charged with theft of copper cables, which is a serious crime in Zimbabwe. In light of this incident Inspector Ncube expressed gratitude towards the members of the public who supplied the police with the information that led to the arrest of the accused person.
He said, “Police appreciate members of the public for supplying information which led to the arrest of the accused person”.
Additionally, Inspector Ncube also encouraged the community to continue supporting the police by reporting any suspicious activities related to power outages and illegal dealings in copper.
Lastly, One of the most significant concerns for the Zimbabwean power company, ZESA, is the issue of cable theft.
