Police in Bulawayo is appealing to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of David Chikara Alias Gushaz to report at any nearest police station who was in the company of three men from Emakhandeni suburb who were arrested in connection with a case of possession of articles for criminal use and fake United States Dollar currency amounting to 2 120.00 dollars.
Obedience Muza (23), Nixon Matienga (37) and Liberty Madzivanyika (33) were arrested on 18 February on the allegations that possess, print and dispose fake money with the help of Guzhas who provided transport to dispose fake money.
Bulawayo Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said “On 17 February 2023 around 1600 Hours, Detectives from CID Homicide Bulawayo received information to the effect that the three accused persons were in possession of fake United States Currency that they were fraudulently using to purchase items so that they get genuine United States Dollar notes.”
“Follow ups were made leading to their arrest on 18 February 2023 at around 0700 hours at a Hotel in Bulawayo where the three were booked. The Detectives managed to recover 26 X US$50-00 fake notes, 37 X US$20-00 fake notes and 08 X US$10-00 fake notes, all amounting to US$2 120-00 fake notes, which was wrapped in side a tissue roll,” Ncube added.
He went on to say that further interviews led to the recovery of a white HP Desk Jet 2710 which was used by the accused persons in photocopying and printing fake notes and three bond papers with prints of fake notes at a house in Cowdry Park, Bulawayo. The accused persons also indicated that they hire the services of one only known as David Chikara Alias Gushaz who provides them with transport in moving around other areas when they are disposing their fake notes.
Ncube urges members of the Business community and the public at large to be cautious when dealing with money transactions as they risk losing sums of money to such criminals.
Prior to this, in 2021 a Bulawayo man was arrested in Gweru after he was found in possession of US$2,710 in counterfeit notes.
