Local musicians suffer financial challenges.
The music industry in Bulawayo is facing financial challenges, with many artists struggling to produce their projects due to lack of sponsorship.
Financial challenges in music industry
Innocent Nyoni, a gospel artist, spoke out about his experience with financial difficulties and negativity he faces.
“It’s really tough out here,” Nyoni said in an interview. “Sponsorships are hard to come by, so many artists are struggling to produce their projects. And even when they do, they’re not getting the recognition they deserve.”
Currently Nyoni is working on his fifth album called ‘Izinga’ where he thanks God for raising his standard. Nyoni’s struggles are not unique, as many other upcoming artists in the city are facing similar financial challenges.
Lack of sponsorship
Tinotenda, an upcoming singer, mentioned that he lacks the sponsorship to finish his project. He has been working on the project for the past one year.
“The problem is we don’t have the money to produce our music,” he said. “We have the talent and the passion for music, but we need the support and recognition to make a living from it.”
The lack of sponsorship is a major factor contributing to the challenges faced by the music industry in Bulawayo.
Lack of recognition
In addition to financial constraints, the lack of recognition and support from the public and the media also adds to the difficulties faced by local artists.
However, there may be some light at the end of the tunnel. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of individuals and organizations willing to provide support for artists. Such support can come in the form of financial assistance or by offering platforms for artists to showcase their talent.
Despite the challenges faced by the Bulawayo music industry, the resilient spirit of the artists continues to shine through. It is undeniable that with the proper support, the local music scene can grow and thrive, making an impact not just locally but also across the globe.
