Residents confused About the Procedure of Egodini Vending Bays Allocation
Vendors in Bulawayo have raised concern over the confusion created by certain people who claim to be allocating Egodini vending bays. Residents have been queuing at Terrecotta Trading Information to get forms and register so that they secure a place.
According to a vendor who spoke on terms of anonymity, there are some people who claim to belong to some political parties who are assuring them to get allocated a vending place at Egodini.
Few days back Bulawayo Town Clerk, Christopher Dube released a press statement warning people about unauthorised allocation of Egodini market vending bay forms.
Unauthorized Forms
The press statement raised concerns over unauthorised individuals distributing forms for the allocation of vending bays at Egodini Market.
“Please be advised that this is UNAUTHORISED AND NOT KNOWN to the City of Bulawayo,” the statement read.
Dube emphasised that this process is solely under their jurisdiction, and any involvement outside of their authority is unauthorised and unknown.
Unauthorized
Furthermore, in a press statement issued by Dube clarified that the allocation of informal trading bays at Egodini Mall, as well as any other designated trading spaces in the city, is strictly carried out by council officials in adherence to established policies and procedures. The process is purely administrative, with no political involvement or interference.
The unauthorised distribution of forms, which was brought to the attention of the city, has prompted officials to warn residents to exercise caution and refrain from filling out such forms. Only the Council officials have the mandate to allocate the vending bays officially.
Forms Warning
To avoid any confusion, the City of Bulawayo has outlined the allocation preferences for the informal trading bays at Egodini Mall. The first priority will be given to informal traders who were relocated from Egodini and are already on the Council’s registry.
Moreover, those who have applied and are on the waiting list will also be considered. Individuals falling outside these categories will not be eligible for allocation. This clarification comes after extensive construction work for the first phase of Egodini Market, which required the relocation of many informal traders temporarily.
Egodini Vigilance
The City of Bulawayo is urging all residents to report any suspicious activity related to the allocation of vending bays at Egodini Market. They have emphasised that it is crucial to cooperate with the Council officials to ensure a fair and transparent allocation process that benefits the traders and the local community.
Lastly, city officials have also warned the public about potential scams and fraudulent attempts to extort money from unsuspecting traders or individuals seeking vending bay allocations. They have advised residents to reach out to the authorities if they encounter any such activities.
