Surge in Violence: Three Attempted Murder Cases Reported in Bulawayo
Violence surge as Police in Bulawayo recorded and investigating three separate cases of attempted murder that occurred in the city between September 16 and 17, 2024.
According to Bulawayo Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube incidents involved violent assaults using weapons, leaving victims with severe injuries.
In the first incident, a 46-year-old man from Burnside was lured to a local sports bar on the evening of September 16 by two assailants, Lameck Mguni (32) and an unidentified accomplice. After leaving the bar, the victim was attacked with an iron bar and stabbed multiple times with an okapi knife.
The second case occurred just a few hours later, at around 1:00 AM on September 17, when a 29-year-old man was attacked in his home by 36-year-old Godfrey Manyoka. The confrontation escalated over a personal dispute, leading Manyoka to stab the victim in the back, chest, and leg with an okapi knife.
The final incident took place in the early hours of September 16, when a 22-year-old woman and her friend were assaulted by four unknown males while returning home from a party in Kenbec, Umguza. The attackers hurled stones at the women, resulting in severe injuries for the complainant, who was left bleeding and unconscious. “I was terrified. It happened so fast,” the victim’s friend recalled. When family members returned to find her, she was found lying on the ground with a deep cut on her forehead and bruises covering her body.
In light of the incidents, Inspector Ncube, condemned the violence and emphasised the need for community vigilance.
“Carrying dangerous weapons is prohibited. We urge people to resolve their differences peacefully and seek help from third parties,” he stated.
Police are actively seeking information from the public that may lead to the arrest of the suspects involved in these violent incidents. The community is encouraged to report any tips to assist law enforcement in ensuring safety and justice for the victims.
