Police in Bulawayo are calling upon all members of the public to join and partner with the police in crime management through community policing after they have noticed a lot of unreported cases by the members of the public.
Bulawayo Spokesperson lnspector Abednego Ncube said that police and public relationship is just like water and fish hence the need to build it.
Insp Ncube said, “This community policing initiative is going to open avenues for the members of the public to view members of ZRP as their partners and to view the aspirations of the police as their own as we fight against crime.”
“Community policing is whereby police involve the public in the fight against crime and police are drawing a lot of benefit from the community policing initiative,”Insp Ncube said.
He added that the police are having a number of initiatives in place such as business against crime forum of Zimbabwe, Junior call clubs, neighborhood watch committees and crime consultative committees.
Insp Ncube also said, “It is members of the public who witness crime happening in their areas and we get information from the members of the public.”
NUST representative Dr Chido Masunda defined community policing as all about improving and building relationship of the members of the public and members of the ZRP.
Meanwhile bulawayo Spokesperson Insp Ncube has urged the members of public to report any cases of gender based violence so that the accused person get arrested as we are now in the month of women.
