Passion For Fashion Trends Lands local Designer Best Emerging Designer award in South Africa
In a world full of storms, pursuing passion can lead to greater heights. This is a story about Immaculate Makolija who is a successful fashion designer from Bulawayo based in South Africa. Her passion for fashion and clothes led her to great achievements. She came up with her own brand called Macue-Line.
With four years in the industry, Makolija has become a well-known designer, with her unique and beautiful designs capturing the attention of many. In an interview, Makolija shared her journey and how she has made it as a fashion designer. Makolija’s journey into fashion started with her love for clothes.
Makolija was inspired by the trends she saw around her, as well as the art that she came across. “The trends and art inspire my designs. I attend fashion shows, read fashion magazines, and always look out for what’s new and trendy on social media as well,” she shared.
Creative Process
Makolija’s creative process involves taking notes and doing a few not-so-perfect sketches to pull all her ideas together. She also considers the fabric she will use and thinks about what the audience expects. “When I have it all together, I am good to go,” she said. Makolija looks for good quality materials and ensures that her fabric choice is the best and is going to be a good fit for the season and the trend.
As a fashion designer, Makolija knows that the competition is tough but believes that there is room for everyone. “It’s difficult to make it as a fashion designer given the competition. But I believe there is room for everyone, so I continue to make beautiful, unique clothes,” she shared.
Makolija’s hard work paid off when she worked on beautiful designs and sent samples to one of the biggest markets in South Africa called The Play Ground. They loved her designs, and she got an opportunity to exhibit her designs at their market.
