Shootout Incident Claims Lives of Suspected Notorious Robbery Suspects in Gwanda
Three suspected notorious armed robbers linked to robbery of US$82 000 and 25 000 Rands around Bulawayo and Matebeleland provinces died after a fierce shootout with detectives from CID homicide Bulawayo near Tuli River, Gwanda on 06 February.
National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner, Paul Nyathi confirmed the fatalities, identifying the deceased as Pride Moyo, Newman Ncube, and Ntokozo Ncube and also appealed for information which may lead to the arrest of Simelweyinkosi Dube who escaped from the scene.

“Detectives from CID homicide Bulawayo acted on received information and intercepted four armed robbery suspects who were travelling in a green and white Toyota Hiace near Tuli River enroute to Freda Mine,” said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.
He added, “On seeing the detectives, the suspects started to fire towards the police officers and a shootout ensued. Resultantly, Pride Moyo, Newman Ncube and Ntokozo Ncube were shot and were taken to Gwanda District Hospital where they died upon admission.”
The police were able to recover crucial evidence from the scene, including a .38 SPL revolver with two live rounds, three empty cartridges, and two pellet guns from suspects’ vehicle.
High-profile Crimes
The deceased suspects were reportedly involved in a series of high-profile crimes, including two robbery cases and an attempted murder. One of the robbery cases occurred on June 30th, 2023, at Insindi Ranch House, where the suspects, armed with pistols, a hunting knife, a knobkerrie, and pepper spray, attacked two victims, making off with a significant amount of cash, firearms, and jewelry.
In another robbery case that took place on January 1st, 2024, in Plumtree, the suspects again resorted to violence, attacking a victim and making off with a substantial sum of money, as well as a motor vehicle. The police have established clear links between the deceased suspects and both incidents.
Additionally, the suspects are connected to an attempted murder case in Cowdray Park on August 1st, 2023.
The Shootout
During a shootout, three police officers were injured, highlighting the dangerous nature of the criminals involved.
Meanwhile, police are calling on the public to assist in providing any information that might lead to Dube’s arrest.
In response to this incident, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges the public to report movements of criminal syndicates to the Police on National Complaints Desk number (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp on 0712 800 197 or report at any nearest Police Station.”
