Zimbabwe Business Expo Highlights Commitment to Economic Progress and Social Responsibility
The second edition of the Zimbabwe Business Expo kicked off in Bulawayo with a resounding call for responsible business practices and a commitment to social obligations.
Vice-President Kembo Mohadi, who officially opened the event aimed to showcase the country’s immense potential in manufacturing, production, and services sectors at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Bulawayo, called for businesses to uphold integrity and contribute to the welfare of citizens.
He said, “I therefore encourage the business community to be responsible in their transactions. Businesses are implored to desist from profiteering tendencies.”
Social Responsibility
Vice-President Mohadi said businesses must operate ethically and avoid profiteering tendencies that harm the very people they aim to serve.
He urged the business community to adopt cultural literacy and good corporate governance measures, emphasising that their actions should align with the core values of Vision 2030. This vision seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an inclusive upper middle-income economy and society.
Vision for Economic Growth
Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Judith Ncube, speaking at the same event, highlighted the pivotal role of the business community in driving Zimbabwe’s economic progress.
She echoed President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s commitment to lifting citizens out of poverty and ensuring their welfare.
According to Ncube, the growth trajectory of Zimbabwe hinges on collaborative efforts between the government and businesses. As businesses implement government policies and initiatives, they play a crucial role in shaping the nation’s economic landscape.
Financial Sector Support for Small Businesses
Ncube expressed hope that the financial sector would actively support small businesses. Access to funding is essential for business expansion and sustainable growth. By providing financial resources, the sector can empower entrepreneurs and contribute to job creation. Ncube’s call resonated with attendees, who recognized the significance of a robust financial ecosystem in driving economic transformation.
Government’s Serious Approach to Business
The presence of Vice-President Mohadi at the expo underscored the government’s commitment to fostering a conducive business environment. His participation signalled that the government takes business seriously and values the contributions of entrepreneurs and investors. The Zimbabwe Business Expo serves as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing, reinforcing the social contract between businesses and citizens.
