NUST Faculty of Commerce in partnership with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has trained police members from more than 17 Bulawayo stations on community policing as corporate social responsibility role.
According to NUST lecturer in the Faculty of Commerce, Dr Chido Masunda said that NUST has a responsibility to community partnerships and community service hence it spearheaded the workshop to improve the relations between the security sector and the public in crime management.
Dr Masunda said, “The main objective of the workshop was community policing which refers to improvement of relations between the members of Zimbabwe Republic Police and members of the public.”
He added that the workshop was all about having a look at the community policing initiatives and how they can make them more effective given that the members of the ZRP are now policing more dynamic society.
Dr Masunda said that since society now changes there is need to refresh these initiatives and make them more applicable and effective. The workshop also provided solutions to any problems between the ZRP and the general public as the police are the community and vice versa to ensure that both parties play their respective roles.
Dr Masunda stated that community policing is all about improving and building relationship between the members of the ZRP and members of the public so that they work together in the fight against crime.
In 2019, the Faculty of Commerce also in a collaborative partnership with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) trained hundreds of police members through an on-going educational program.
