Teen Challenges Body Shaming Through Writing
PLUS-SIZED women are always treated as social outcasts and called names in the society, they go through a lot of ridicule, and bullying and get crucified especially on social media, all for how they look and the size of their bodies.
Such sensitive issues are what a 19-year-old Bulawayo teenage author, Ayanda Moyo addresses in her novel to celebrate women’s physical appearance. “The novel highlights a journey of self-discovery against social acceptance and was inspired by my experiences as a plus sized woman,” says Moyo.
She said herself being a plus sized woman and the fact that it’s not common to find novels about plus size women, it drove her to want to write the book about them.

The Novels Main Plot
The novel which is titled, “Misfit” is a contemporary romantic piece about a young girl called Amaya Blunt who has to deal with body shaming and low self-esteem.
One day when she is at the library, she bumps into an old lady who helps her with regaining self-esteem and develop her character.
“On the other hand, at school, she created a bond with a wealthy young lady who is a sibling of the school’s sweetheart with romantic consequences which kick start the journey of self-discovery.”
