Hualin Quarry Faces Backlash for Disability Food Hamper Donation
Chinese-owned Hualin Quarry Mine in Bulawayo’s Pumula suburb has received a backlash after on Friday gave food hampers to 243 people with disabilities in ward 17, Pumula as part of their social responsibility initiative.
Bulawayo residents criticised the food hampers and claimed that the donated for 243 cost not more than $200usd but they make millions of Dollars per year.
Mining Peril
Moreover, according to residents, Zimbabweans are not benefiting anything from their Natural resources, even employment as Chinese companies bring all machinery and a very few of labour is hired.
“The damage they are doing that will cause people’s homes to collapse in the near future cannot be equivalent to this nonsense food temporary hampers given to the residents. These people don’t value life and property of the community. Why were they permitted to mine near the community area,” claimed another resident.
Community Priorities
Another resident identified as Moyo said, “Good thought. However this is just nothing as compared to the company profits. A week meal. Give the young people jobs. Tar the roads. Build Youth Centres. Isilwane Youth Center needs rehabilitation. Support children with fees etc etc. To me this is better than a bottle of cooking oil.”
Lastly, over the past months, Haulin Quarry Mine has been accused of contaminating the environment by discharging noxious fumes into the atmosphere in Pumula North.
