Newly elected Bulawayo Mayor calls for collective effort among all parties to develop Bulawayo
Newly elected Bulawayo Mayor Councillor David Coltart calls for collective effort among all parties and citizens for the development and Restoration of the city’s glory.
Mayor Coltart said this when he was presenting his acceptance speech as Mayor on 11 September at Bulawayo City Council chambers.
“We know all of us as citizens of Bulawayo that we have massive obstacles and challenges to face if we are to restore the city to its greatness. We cannot do that as CCC crocus alone we can only do that if we enjoy the support of the entirety of Bulawayo from all political parties irrespective of their views,” said Coltart.
He added, “It is time that we actually work not to pursue personal or partisan political agenda. It is time to work in the interest of all the citizens, residents of Bulawayo particularly the disadvantaged members if our society and our community, that has to be our focus.”
Bulawayo’s Interests
He further committed himself to a non-partisan fashion to put the best interest of all citizens of Bulawayo at the forefront of what they do as councillors.
Coltart also indicated adoption of a zero tolerance to corruption council where all councillors will be held accountable through a hotline yet to be set up.
“We are all conscious of the allegations of corruption. I want to undertake today as Mayor I want to adopt a zero tolerance attitude towards corruption that is directed to my own councillors,” he said.

Hotline
He added, “One of the things we will do is we will set up a hotline ran by an independent person available to all citizens of the great city so they can phone in and be whistle-blowers.”
He also appealed to the central government not to impede development of the city.
“My appeal to everyone and in particularly to the government, I am conscious that the office of Mayor has been denuded of effective power. I am also aware of many of the resources the city used to have access to such as power license fees and other things have been removed from the control of this council to central government.”
