Bulawayo Police Seek Public Help in Disturbing Infant Dumping Cases
In a shocking turn of events, police in Bulawayo are appealing to the public for information regarding two separate incidents involving the dumping of a human foetus and a newborn baby. The police are seeking the whereabouts of the mothers involved and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
According to Acting Bulawayo Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele the first case involves the foetus which was found floating in Phekiwe River.
Assistant Inspector Msebele said, “On the 9th of July 2023 at around 1200 hours, a male adult aged 54 years was coming from Nkulumane going to his place of residence. When he was crossing Phekiwe river, he observed a foetus floating on water.”
After recognizing the gravity of the situation, he immediately reported the finding to the police. The foetus was subsequently transported to the United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary for further examination.
Rising Incidents
In a separate incident later that same day, at around 3:45 pm, a man heard the cries of a baby emanating from a nearby bush when he was walking near Raji Modi Mall in Cowdray Park.
“On another case, on the same date and at around 1545 hours, a male adult aged 51 years was walking along a footpath near Raji Modi Mall in cowdray park when he heard a baby crying from a nearby bush. He proceeded to where the sound of the baby was coming from and discovered a newly born baby girl approximately few hours old wrapped with a black plastic paper placed in the long grass,” said Assistant Inspector Msebele.
He wasted no time and promptly alerted the police who quickly arranged for the baby to receive medical attention at Mpilo Hospital.
Public Assistance Needed
In response to the incidents, Assistant Inspector Msebele implored members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in locating the mothers involved in these distressing cases.
Assistant Inspector Msebele stated, “we are urging members of the public to accept reality that might have befallen them and seek assistance from elders or relatives.”
As the investigation unfolds, concerned citizens are encouraged to contact their nearest police station with any information that may assist in identifying and locating the mothers involved. By working together, the community can play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all its members.
