Vehicle Smuggling on the Rise
The smuggling of vehicles has become rampant in Zimbabwe across borders with most cases reported in Beightbridge and Plumtree border post.
According to National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi the police presence has been increased along the border lines to fight smuggling.
“As police we continue to fight smuggling because the government is losing a lot of importing revenue,” said Ass Commissioner Nyathi.

End Smuggling
He added, “As police, we urge members of the public to work with the police to end smuggling.”
Prior to this, on 27 January 2024, Plumtree police arrested David Mazararire, Ndumiso Mudenda, Norman Farai Nhunge, and Peter Ndlovu for smuggling two Honda Fit vehicles and a Toyota Vitz vehicle through an undesignated entry point in Madlambuzi. The suspects had no Temporary Import Permits and vehicle registration books for the vehicles.
Through the River
On the same date recovered a black unregistered Honda Fit vehicle which the suspects tried to smuggle across Ramokgwebana river.
The suspects reportedly tried to use iron roofing sheets to get the vehicle across the river but unfortunately the vehicle got stuck in the mud.
In light of this incident the police have launched a manhunt for the suspects who tried to smuggle a stolen vehicle into the country from Botswana.
