Entrepreneur Transforms Carpentry Business, Empowering Youth and Fighting Drug Abuse
With a passion for carpentry and a drive to empower the youth, Kholwane Ndlovu has transformed his humble beginnings into a thriving enterprise – Ezidlekhaya Holdings. The company not only provides high-quality carpentry services but also plays a significant role in training and mentoring young individuals, offering them an alternative path away from drug abuse.
Born and raised in rural areas, Ndlovu’s journey to success has been one fueled by resilience and determination. After completing his ordinary level education, he ventured into the city of Bulawayo, where he initially worked as a barber under a tree. However, fate intervened when he stumbled upon an advertisement offering various training courses, including carpentry.
“I saw the advertisement, and something inside me clicked. I knew that carpentry was my calling,” shared Ndlovu. “I underwent extensive training from the International Labor Organization, and it opened up a world of possibilities for me.”
Lack of Capital
Despite his newfound skills, Ndlovu faced a significant hurdle that is capital. Unable to immediately start his own business, he sought employment at Tradeport Supply Chains, a distribution company. Determined to pursue his dream, he strategically allocated his earnings toward purchasing carpentry equipment.
“While working at Tradeport, I used every opportunity to invest in the tools I needed for my own carpentry business,” Ndlovu explained. “I knew that one day, I would have my own company and contribute to the community by training young people.”
Ndlovu’s time at Tradeport not only taught him the importance of marketing but also instilled in him the drive to develop his entrepreneurial skills. As his expertise grew, he began working from his backyard space, servicing clients while still maintaining his employment.

Building Connections
“The experience at Tradeport was invaluable. It allowed me to understand the market, build connections, and refine my craftsmanship,” Ndlovu said. “It was then that I realized I needed to establish my own commercial space to further expand my business.”
Furthermore, driven by his aspirations, Ndlovu officially registered his company as Ezidlekhaya. The primary objective was not only to provide exceptional carpentry services but also to train and mentor young individuals, steering them away from the dangers of drug abuse.
“My vision for Ezidlekhaya is to create a safe space for young people, particularly school leavers, to learn craftsmanship and develop their skills,” Ndlovu shared passionately. “I firmly believe that by channeling their energy into productive work, we can prevent them from falling victim to drug abuse.”
Expanding Reach
The challenges faced by Ezidlekhaya are not unique, and Ndlovu acknowledges the need for more capital to expand their reach and supply their products throughout the country. However, despite these obstacles, he remains hopeful that the company will continue to grow and make a significant impact.
“As the demand for our products and services increases, I hope to expand into new areas and introduce additional training programs, such as welding and hairdressing,” Ndlovu expressed. “Our goal is to empower as many young individuals as possible and provide them with viable career options.”
In addition, to its carpentry offerings, Ezidlekhaya has diversified its portfolio by manufacturing and supplying various household goods, including wardrobes, beds, and kitchen units. They have also ventured into producing spices, sauces, macimbi, and other culinary delights.
Training Program
Looking forward, Ndlovu envisions Ezidlekhaya offering certificates to those who undergo their carpentry training program, further enhancing their employability and fostering a sense of pride in their achievements.
“I want to see our trainees thrive and become successful individuals in their own right. Through our efforts, we aim to empower them to build a brighter future for themselves and their communities,” Ndlovu concluded with unwavering determination.
