Four Accused Persons Arrested for Series of Unlawful Entry and Theft Cases in Bulawayo
Bulawayo Police have apprehended four accused serial thieves that had plagued the Cowdray Park and Nguboyenja areas.
Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the arrests of Tonderai Garaneni (25), Edson Moyo (22), Shelton Maphosa(18), and Philani Moyo (25) for a series of cases of unlawful entry and theft spanning from June to July 2023.
“During the period from June 2023 to July 2023, the four accused persons were behind a spate of unlawful entry and theft cases committed in Cowdray Park and Nguboyenja areas. They used a similar means of force opening locked doors to gain entry,” Inspector Ncube said.

Targeting Electrical Gadgets
He added, “Whilst inside the accused persons would target electrical gadgets which include solar panels, plasma television, HP laptops and other properties which include two x 12 meter industrial wooden planks and wooden doors.”
Inspector Ncube, shed light on the investigation and disclosed, “A follow-up operation by the police led to the arrest of Tonderai Garaneni at a car park in Gwabalanda, Bulawayo. During the interview, Garaneni admitted to his involvement in these crimes, along with the other accused individuals.”

This crucial information enabled the police to apprehend the remaining three suspects at their respective residences swiftly. The police were able to recover stolen goods worth USD$1,810-00, positively identified by the victims. As the investigation unfolds, the police urge residents to adopt target hardening techniques and engage in collaborative efforts to enhance their home security.
Moreover, in response to the recent arrests, Inspector Ncube emphasized the importance of cooperation and community involvement in preventing such incidents, stating, “We strongly urge the community to implement target hardening techniques in their homes, such as installing doors and window burglar bars to enhance security.”
Robberies on the Rise
Furthermore, as incidents of home invasions and robberies on the rise in the Province Inspector Ncube recommend practicing the “watch my back, I watch your back” theory, whereby neighbors communicate with each other when leaving their homes, providing an additional layer of vigilance and support.
Inspector Ncube also highlighted the availability of the “house under supervision” scheme offered at all police stations, encouraging residents to participate and take advantage of this service.
Lastly, the arrest of these suspects serves as a significant milestone in tackling the rising tide of unlawful entry and theft incidents in the Cowdray Park and Nguboyenja areas.
