Egodini market redesign project back on track
Bulawayo Mayor, David Coltart has announced that substantial progress has been made on the redesign of the Egodini vendors bays in Bulawayo, following a series of meetings with McCormick Property Development.
The project, which aims to fully roof the Egodini market to provide protection for vendors, customers, and their products, had previously faced delays.
“We are pleased to report that the project is now underway again,” said Bulawayo Mayor, Councillor David Coltart. He added, “The redesign was crucial to decongest areas in the center of our city, including 5th Avenue, and provide a safe and comfortable environment for our vendors.”
Egodini Frustrations
Egodini, a bustling market in the heart of Bulawayo, has long been a critical component of the city’s plan to alleviate overcrowding in the central areas. However, progress on the project had been slow, leading to frustration within the community.
Coltart further stated, “I am grateful for the new energy injected by McCormick Property Development. Their commitment to completing this long-outstanding project is commendable, and I am hopeful that it will now be successfully concluded.”
The decision to fully roof the Egodini vendors market comes as a crucial step towards improving conditions for traders and their customers. Currently, the market lacks adequate shelter for vendors, leaving them exposed to harsh weather conditions.
Improvements
The redesign aims to address these challenges by providing a roofed space that will protect vendors and customers from the elements. This improvement is set to significantly enhance the overall market experience, attracting more visitors and boosting business for the local community.
According to Coltart, McCormick Property Development is a South African company specializing in urban property development and infrastructure projects which has local partners. Their expertise in designing functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces makes them a valuable partner for the Egodini project.
The redevelopment of Egodini vendors bays is a significant milestone for the City of Bulawayo, marking a step towards achieving its goal of decongesting the CBD.
