eGodini Taxi Rank Officially Reopened
eGodini Mall Taxi Rank and Informal Traders Market (Phase 1) has been officially opened with 400 bays for operators and traders, with an additional 767 bays expected to be made available in the future, bringing the total number of bays to 1167.
This was announced by the Mayor of Bulawayo, David Coltart who revealed that the movement of taxis into the Egodini Mall Taxi Rank and Informal Traders Market is gaining momentum since the relocation exercise began earlier this week.
“We are pleased to see the progress being made as taxi operators and informal traders transition to the designated areas at Egodini Mall. This is a crucial step in decongesting the city and providing safer workspaces for our informal sector,” said Coltart.
Informal Traders Verification
The verification process for informal traders has already been completed, with all 400 available bays being allocated based on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Coltart emphasised the city’s commitment to providing appropriate working spaces for the informal sector and decongesting the city.
He also mentioned the establishment of markets in western areas like the Nkulumane Safe Market at Nkulumane Complex, which is nearing completion. Additionally, the city has designated 2nd Avenue and Lobengula Street as another informal trading site with 700 bays under construction.
“We urge all informal traders to register with our offices at Basch Street to regularise their operations and take advantage of the 10,000 informal bays available throughout the city,” stated Coltart.

Decongesting 5th Avenue
He also mentioned plans to further decongest Fifth Avenue with the establishment of approximately 500 bays.
The city is also focused on preventing and mitigating cholera, with efforts being intensified to improve overall sanitation in the city.
“We urge all traders to operate from designated sites and maintain high levels of sanitation to prevent the spread of diseases,” said Coltart.
Coltart expressed his gratitude to the residents of Bulawayo for adhering to the city’s bylaws and operating from designated vending areas. He warned that traders operating outside the confines of the city’s bylaws will be dealt with accordingly.
